Israel Announces the Death of 60 Hezbollah Fighters in South Lebanon

Israel said today that it had killed around 60 Hezbollah fighters in a series of airstrikes in Lebanon, including one against a municipal building in the southern town of Bint Jbeil, where 15 militiamen were reportedly killed.

In total, Israeli forces claimed to have hit around 200 Hezbollah targets in Lebanese territory over the last day, including military infrastructure, fighters, weapons warehouses and observation points.

The Israeli army also indicated that its air force planes managed to shoot down several militants who attacked troops in southern Lebanon, including in an incident today when two Hezbollah fighters fired at soldiers from one of the brigades deployed in the area.

“The air force quickly attacked the terrorists and no injuries were reported among the soldiers,” said the Israeli army.

Israel has been exchanging fire with the Shiite group, an ally of Iran, for almost a year on the Lebanese border. On Monday, after a week of intense Israeli bombardment against the south and east of the country, the authorities announced the deployment of troops to southern Lebanon to dismantle the Shiite movement's infrastructure.

After almost two days without providing any information about the fighting, the Israeli army confirmed on Wednesday night that eight soldiers had died in clashes with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

In addition, Israeli forces launched several attacks on Beirut, focusing mainly on the southern suburbs of the capital, a Hezbollah stronghold, and killed several senior members of the organization, including its secretary-general, Hassan Nasrallah.

The intense bombardments have already caused almost 2,000 deaths and displaced a million people, according to the Lebanese authorities.
