Liam Payne Jumped From Hotel Balcony, Officials Confirm

The Argentine authorities have confirmed that singer Liam Payne, former member of the band One Direction, jumped from the balcony of the hotel where he was staying in Buenos Aires. The pop star was found dead on Wednesday outside the CasaSur hotel.

In a statement to the Associated Press, the communications director and spokesman for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry said that Payne “jumped from the balcony of his room”.

They also reported that police rushed to the scene in response to an emergency call just after 5pm local time, warning of an “aggressive man who might be under the influence of drugs or alcohol”.

According to the Associated Press, in the call log, the hotel manager said he had “a guest overloaded with drugs and alcohol”. “He's destroying the whole room and, well, we need you to send someone, please,” he exclaimed.

On the call, the manager even stressed that he was concerned about the fact that Liam's room had a balcony.

Alberto Crescenti, head of Argentina's Emergency Medical Care System (SAME), told the local press that the cause of death is being investigated and that the singer's body will undergo an autopsy. He said that the artist fell from a height of around 13 to 14 meters and that death was instantaneous.
