Singer Liam Payne died on Wednesday (16) at the age of 31. The artist had been struggling with mental illness for some time and even admitted it in mid-2019. At the time, the former One Direction singer even said that he had 'suicidal thoughts'.
The revelation came during an appearance on the program 'Straight Talking with Ant Middleton'. “Fame is like having a mid-life crisis. And I'm lucky to still be here,” he said. “I can't get deep into it. I still haven't made peace with the subject,” he explained, sidestepping the question.

At the time, Liam also stressed that although fame brings millions of fans, it also isolates artists. “There are times when there's this level of loneliness and people kind of 'get into you' every day. And that almost killed me a few times. I went through a really bad period. Luckily, I had great people around me. When things start to weigh on you, you think there will be another hurdle in a few months and you just have to get on with it. It's just that things piled up, but I always thought that everything was going to be okay, even in the darkest situations,” he analyzed.
The singer also said that his busy schedule also affected his mental health, especially with regard to the distance from his son. “I feel lonely when I can't see Bear for a few days. It feels like I have everything, but there are some pieces missing. Uncertainty is a very strong thing in my life and I don't know how long it will last. On top of that, there are 50 million rumors a week that are hard to ignore. It's hard to trust anyone.
Liam Payne spoke about his son before he died
Liam Payne spoke briefly about his son a month before his death. The singer, who had always been discreet about little Bear, 7, the fruit of his relationship with Cheryl Cole, said on his Snapchat profile that he was excited to talk to the boy, and that they were very similar.
In the sequence of videos in which he celebrates his 31st birthday at the end of August, he even joked about the “dad” present he would like to receive.

“I haven't won any dad socks yet. But I'm going to talk to my son in a little while, and I'm very excited about it. God bless him,” he began, drooling afterwards: ”He's so big now. He's a big boy, and he looks like a 'mini me', as if we needed more 'me' in the world,” he said.
She continued: “I can see a lot of myself in him. He did the cutest thing this week, I have to mention. He was like, 'Oh, we need you here now, Dad'. God bless him. It made me want to cry.
Although Liam and Cheryl chose not to publicly share photos of Bear's face throughout the boy's life, Liam always gave updates about his son to his fans.
