One of Liam Payne's older sisters, Ruth Gibbins, broke her silence on her Instagram page on Saturday, October 19.
"I can't believe this is happening. I've often poured my heart out publicly and proudly told Liam, but I've never really spoken about life as his sister. Liam was my best friend. No one has ever made me laugh as much as he did," she began in an emotional post.
"He moved away when he was 17 to pursue his dreams. That's what forced me to finally pass my driving test during the live gala weeks of 'The X Factor' because I couldn't bear the thought of not being able to get to him. I would regularly drive to have tea with him when I finished work," she said, adding that she "loved picking him up from work when it all started, especially after the shows."
"Liam loved One Direction, he loved his brothers and we talked about it a lot. He would play song after song that had been recorded but never used, and we would do a mini One Direction concert," she shared.
Speaking about her relationship with her brother, Ruth Gibbins highlighted that the singer "knew he could call her at any time", and that "she would always come and get him if he needed to come home".
Liam Payne's sister recalled that whenever they said goodbye on a phone call, the artist would say that he "loved" her, also highlighting that the singer had "music in his veins" and that he was born to perform.
"Liam, my brain is struggling to understand what's going on and I don't understand where you've gone. I just want to drive to your house, get in the middle of the loud music and find you sitting there writing a song," she said.
"I don't feel like this world has been good enough or kind to you and often over the last few years you have had to work so hard to overcome everything that was being thrown at you. You just wanted to be loved and make people happy with your music. You never believed you were good enough, I hope you can see this outpouring of love that you never received in your time. Thank you for changing my life, thank you for the incredible memories, thank you for being the best brother and friend I've ever had," Ruth Gibbins' post read.
Before finishing, Liam's sister promised to "take care of Bear", the singer's seven-year-old son, and make sure the boy "will always know how amazing his dad was and how much he loved him".
