Two Russian Aerospace Forces bombers carried out a patrol mission over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan, the Russian Defence Ministry said today.
‘Two Tu-95MS long-range strategic bombers carried out a scheduled flight in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan,’ the ministry said in a statement issued via its Telegram social media channel.
The bombers flew for 10 hours, escorted by Su-30 fighters, the statement added.
‘All flights by Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft are carried out in strict accordance with international standards for the use of airspace,’ the statement added.
An air component of the Russian Federation's nuclear forces, strategic bombers can also carry out attacks with conventional missiles and bombs, including cruise missiles.
The Russian Aerospace Forces carried out a patrol with strategic bombers at the junction of the American and Asian continents in July, in partnership with the Chinese Air Force, and joint naval exercises with Beijing in the Sea of Japan in September.
