A 27-year-old Argentine woman was arrested by the Spanish National Police in Palma after trying to kill her six-year-old daughter by suffocating her with a pillow in the family home.
According to the Spanish press, it was the woman who raised the alarm, saying that the child was having convulsions. The child ended up being admitted to hospital and it was at that time that the police first became aware of the facts.
The mother told doctors that the child felt pressure in her chest while they were watching television on the sofa at home. However, the girl had injuries consistent with attempted suffocation.
After being discharged, the child told a person who was caring for her that her mother had tried to suffocate her with the pillow until she lost consciousness. At that time, the carrier alerted the police to the fact that the child was afraid to go home and did not want to be with her mother.
The officers began an investigation and, after taking several statements, confirmed that the woman had grabbed a pillow to try to suffocate the child. The child began to have convulsions and the mother realized what she was doing and called the emergency services.
The woman was arrested. The child is in the care of a relative.
