At Least Eight Wounded In Bus Attack In West Bank

At least eight people were injured today when an Israeli bus was shot at near the settlement of Ariel, in the north of the occupied West Bank, announced Magen David Adom (MDA), the Israeli organization equivalent to the Red Cross.

In a statement, the Israeli army said that the attack took place at a crossroads near the town and that a “terrorist was neutralized on the spot”, while the MDA said that three people were seriously injured.

According to the MDA, four people were wounded by bullets and another four were lightly wounded by shards of glass.

A spokesman for the emergency services said that three of the wounded were conscious when rescuers arrived at the scene and that the most seriously injured had been taken to hospital.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967 and violence has escalated in this Palestinian territory since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, triggered by the Palestinian Islamist movement's attacks on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023.

At least 24 Israelis have died since October last year in attacks by Palestinian militants or during Israeli military operations in the West Bank, according to the Israeli authorities.

At least 747 Palestinians have been killed during the same period by Israeli soldiers or settlers, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
