The US Secretary of State on Tuesday called on China to use its influence to stop the alliance between Russia and North Korea, warning that this association will force Europe and Asia to reinforce defense.
"China has an important role to play in using its influence over North Korea and Russia. Otherwise, countries in the region and on the Korean Peninsula, including the United States, South Korea and Japan, will give new steps to reinforce its defense capabilities", highlighted Antony Blinken, in a press conference at the end of the G7 summit in Italy.
Blinken, who is saying goodbye to this forum before Republican Donald Trump's return to the White House, explained the "deep concern" that this collaboration between regimes raises.
"Not just because of what North Korea is doing for Russia in its aggression against Ukraine, but because of what Russia does and can do for North Korea in terms of its missile or nuclear capabilities," detailed the head of North American diplomacy.
This alliance will force neighboring countries to strengthen their defense forces, which could unnerve Beijing.
"Without a doubt, these measures are not aimed at China, but China will not like them. As a member of the United Nations Security Council, I think we all hope that China will use its influence and try to put an end to this," he insisted. .
Ministers from the G7, a group of the most industrialized democracies on the planet (Germany, Canada, United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom) met in the Italian cities of Fiuggi and Anagni (center), under rotating Italian leadership.
In the summit's final statement, the G7 denounced China's "growing support" for Russia's defense industry, which it says allows it to continue its invasion of Ukraine and threatens to have "large-scale" security impacts.
"In pursuing constructive and stable relations with China, we recognize the importance of direct and sincere engagement to express concerns and manage differences," the group stressed.
This two-day summit focused much attention on relations with China and the Indo-Pacific region, and Beijing's support for Vladimir Putin's regime.
"We call on China to cease the transfer of unmanned aerial attack vehicles and dual-use materials, including weapons and material components", the countries also demanded in the final statements.
They also called on Beijing to "intensify efforts" to promote international peace and security and "call on Russia to cease its military attacks and immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw its own troops from Ukraine."
He also "strongly condemned" the "increasing military cooperation" between Russia and North Korea, especially Pyongyang's deployment of troops in the war against Ukraine.
The G7 assured that it is working "together with international partners to provide a coordinated response" to the alliance between Moscow and Pyongyang.
