The state of Washington, in the northwest of the United States, has been hit by a major storm over the last few days, causing at least two deaths and two injuries and leaving hundreds of thousands of people without electricity.
The storm is considered a “bomb cyclone”, which occurs when a cyclone intensifies rapidly.
On Tuesday night, a woman died when a tree fell on a homeless camp in Lynnwood, north of Seattle. A second woman died, also on Tuesday, when a tree hit her house.
“Trees are falling all over the city and falling on houses,” the Bellevue Fire Department warned on social media. “If you can, go to the lowest floor and stay away from windows. Do not go outside if you can avoid it.”
The weather forecast center has issued heavy rain warnings until Friday, and hurricane-force wind warnings are also in effect.
In California, the weather service has extended the flood warning until Saturday to areas north of San Francisco.
A winter storm warning is also in effect in the northern Sierra Nevada, above 1,066 meters, where up to 28 centimeters of snow could fall in two days.
