Official: Pep Guardiola Renews With Manchester City And Hugo Viana 'Thanks'

The wait is over. Manchester City announced on Thursday that they had reached an agreement with Pep Guardiola to renew their contract for another two seasons, following four straight defeats - one of which was against Sporting (4-1) in the Champions League.

The announcement comes just a few weeks after the Spanish coach learned that his friend Txiki Begiristain is stepping down as the club's sporting director, a role that will now be taken up by Hugo Viana, Sporting's current manager.

“This renewal will take Pep into a decade as manager of Manchester City and the opportunity to continue rewriting the record books,” said Khaldoon Al Mubarak, chairman of Manchester City, in statements to the club's official channels.

Now in his eighth consecutive season at the Etihad club (with 18 titles to his name), Pep Guardiola could make it ten seasons in charge of the team where Portuguese players Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Matheus Nunes play.
