PlayStation Announces Departure of Executive Who Has Been With the Company for 31 Years

One of PlayStation's leading figures, Shuhei Yoshida, has announced that he is retiring. The executive, who became president of Sony Interactive Entertainment's Worldwide Studios division, has been with the Japanese company for 38 years and spent 31 years at PlayStation.

Yoshida announced the news on the most recent episode of the PlayStation podcast, where he noted that the occasion is “like announcing the date of a new game.” “It's something I haven't done in a while,” joked the executive.

“I love the PlayStation 5, I love the games that are being released on this platform. And we have new generations of managers that I respect and admire. I'm very excited about the future of PlayStation. PlayStation is in good hands. My time has come,” said Yoshida.

The executive joined Sony in 1986 and was one of the first people to join the video game division in 1993, where he was responsible for licensing games from external studios.

The executive has since followed all generations of PlayStation and, between 2008 and 2019, held the position of president of Worldwide Studios within Sony Interactive Entertainment. Since then, Yoshida has been in charge of a department dedicated to fostering the development of independent games.
