Tourists Hospitalized in Thailand Due to Drinking

Two female Australian tourists are being treated in Thailand for suspected severe alcohol poisoning after consuming contaminated drinks in Laos, according to APNews, citing Australian media.

The two 19-year-old victims were on a backpacking vacation through Laos when they fell ill in the tourist town of Vang Vieng.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed that it was providing consular assistance to the two Australian women in Thailand as well as their families, although it did not reveal any further information about what had happened.

“Our thoughts are with them at this deeply distressing time,” the Department said.

On November 13, after failing to check out as planned, staff at the hostel where they were staying found them in their room and sought medical help for the guests.
