US Government Opens Antitrust Investigation Into Microsoft

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has opened an antitrust investigation into Microsoft to examine its practices in areas such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence, CNN television reported today.

A source cited by the broadcaster said that the FTC has already sent a letter to Microsoft demanding information.

Neither the government agency nor the company have commented publicly.

CNN did not specify the accusations made against Microsoft, nor the products that may be at stake.

Microsoft has already faced antitrust investigations. This year, the European Union considered opening a formal investigation into its million-dollar association with OpenAI, but the process did not move forward.

The news comes just weeks before Joe Biden cedes office to Donald Trump in January 2025.

Although he has not yet announced who will lead the FTC, it is believed that he will replace the current president, Lina Khan, nominated by Biden.

With the arrival of Trump's team, ongoing investigations may be shelved.
