A former employee of the Florida Department for Families and Children has been arrested after her 13-year-old foster daughter was found dead.
Diane Natasha Mack, 34, worked as a guardian, a person appointed by the courts to represent the interests of people who are not of legal age to do so, and allegedly took in several children at her home.
The woman alerted the authorities on Friday to the fact that she had found one of her adopted daughters unconscious at home.
When the authorities arrived at the scene, they found the victim dressed only in a diaper and with visible signs that she was the victim of abuse and violence.
The young woman, who was supposed to be home-schooled, was in fact tied up and trapped in the garage of the house, say the authorities, who also add that she was being watched using a security camera.
Before the police were alerted, the woman tried to erase the traces of her living in the garage with chlorine and took the other children out of the house so they wouldn't see the victim's body.
Diana Mack is being held without bail in the Highlands County Jail, where she faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, kidnapping and destruction of evidence.
