Woman Orders Her Usual Dish At A Restaurant And Dies Of Anaphylactic Shock

A 23-year-old North American woman died after having an allergic reaction during her first date.

Alison Pickering, who is allergic to peanuts, chose a restaurant she used to go to, as she already knew its menu well and knew what she could and couldn't eat. What I didn't know was that the space had a habit of changing its menus.

The young woman chose a dish she knew well but, that day, a change in the recipe's ingredients caused her to have a fatal allergic reaction, reports The New York Post.

Alison suffered her first reaction at preschool age, since then, also under her parents' advice, she started to be careful with everything she ingested.

After this incident, the parents want Alison's case to serve as a warning to the food community.

"She went to the same restaurants and almost always ordered the same dishes", remember her parents, remembering that that was exactly what she did that day, on May 12, 2023. The space's cook had, however, changed the recipe recently and without to warn.

The young woman ended up unconscious and dying from a “severe anaphylactic shock”.

A year and a half later, parents are working to prevent more people from dying from hidden allergens in restaurants.

Part of the change includes Texas restaurants working on communication between all team members involving recipe changes, especially when it comes to these types of products.
