A Royal Caribbean cruise passenger has died after being detained on board the ship for insulting and assaulting crew members.
Michael Virgil, 35, died on Friday, with his family claiming security guards injected him with a sedative.
The man allegedly threatened to kill two people and assaulted two crew members after an argument that began less than an hour after the ship departed from the Port of San Pedro in Los Angeles. He would be drunk.
Several members of Royal Caribbean's security team were able to detain Virgil using zip ties, handcuffs and pepper spray.
About an hour later, the man died.
The family says this behavior was unusual for the man, who was traveling with his wife and 7-year-old son.
Authorities are awaiting the results of the autopsy to continue investigating the incident.
