Selena Gomez Criticized for the Way She Spoke Spanish in 'Emilia Pérez'

Selena Gomez comes from a Mexican family on her father's side, but recently stated that she stopped speaking Spanish fluently when she moved to Los Angeles (USA).

In the film 'Emilia Pérez', her character speaks the language.

On the podcast 'Hablando de Cine', Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez criticized Gomez's performance, considering it "unacceptable", precisely because of the actress' pronunciation, reports People.

Selena Gomez has already responded to the criticism, apologizing and adding: "I did the best I could with the time I was given. That doesn't take away from the work and all the heart I put into the film."

Recently, the actress and singer had already revealed that she took Spanish classes for six months to prepare for the role in 'Emilia Pérez'.
