Instagram and Threads Will Now Show More Political Content

Instagram and Threads boss Adam Mosseri shared a video on his own page where he talks about the changes to Meta's moderation policy. Furthermore, Mosseri mentions that these social networks will start showing political content to users.

In the video in question, Mosseri recaps all the changes announced by Zuckerberg and indicates that the goal is to introduce a more personalized approach to displaying political content from pages that are not followed by users. For the person responsible for Instagram and Threads, the goal will also be to give creators with political content a place to talk about these issues.

“Instagram was created with the principles of creativity and giving everyone a voice, and this focus on freedom of expression will help us get back to those roots,” Mosseri says, noting that the changes are expected to be felt this week and which will become more evident over time.

It is worth remembering that, at the launch of Threads in 2023, Mosseri stated that the revenue from displaying more political content on the social network “did not justify all the scrutiny, negativity and integrity risks” that would result from such a bet. Well, Mosseri seems to have a different perspective on the matter now.

“I have said publicly and for a long time that it is not our place to show people political content from pages they do not follow, but many people have been very clear that they want that content and it has proven impractical to draw a red line around it.” which is or is not political content,” Mosseri wrote in Threads.
