Russians Pay Tribute to Boris Nemtsov on 10th Anniversary of His Death



Boris Nemtsov, 55, was walking on the Great Stone Bridge when he was shot four times in the back on February 27, 2015. Several people paid tribute to Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov on Thursday morning, marking the 10th anniversary of his death.


People and diplomats laid flowers on the bridge in central Moscow where Nemtsov was shot dead on the night of February 27, 2015. According to the Russian publication Novaya Gazeta, the ambassadors of the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy and Germany were present at the tribute.


Boris Nemtsov, 55, was walking on the Great Stone Bridge with his girlfriend, Ukrainian Anna Durytska, when he was shot four times in the back, killing him.


In June 2017, five men from the Russian republic of Chechnya were sentenced to between 11 and 20 years for the murder of a Russian opposition figure in exchange for 15 million rubles (around 164,000 euros).


Nemtsov was deputy prime minister in the late 1990s before joining the opposition. He was one of the most vocal opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin and at the time of his death he held the post of deputy in the parliament of the Yaroslavl region and co-chair of the RPR-Parnas party.
