Airi Sato, a 22-year-old Japanese influencer, was stabbed to death while live streaming on social media on a street in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday. The suspect was identified by local police as Kenji Takano, a 42-year-old "spiteful" follower.
According to The New York Times, some passersby heard the young woman screaming for help, while the live broadcast was muted, with only the sounds of ambulance sirens being heard.
On Wednesday, Tokyo police confirmed they had arrested a 42-year-old man, identified as Kenji Takano, a "spiteful" follower of the young woman. The suspect was indicted for the crime of murder and confessed to having committed the attack, despite assuring that he had no intention of killing Airi Sato.
Police indicated that Takano was a follower of Airi Sato and lent her a “large amount of money,” which she never returned. This fact, the police believe, may have led the man to "hold a grudge" against the influencer.
Takano used a survival knife to attack Sato in the head, neck and torso on a busy street in Japan. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the young woman did not survive her injuries and died in hospital.
