Bad luck knocked on the door of Alphonso Davies, who suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and will be out of action for close to six months, according to German newspaper Bild on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old left-back was substituted last Sunday due to physical problems in the 12th minute of Canada's 2-1 win over the United States of America in the third-place play-off in the CONCACAF Nations League.
On his return to Germany, the left-back underwent further examination by the Bavarians' medical team, who confirmed the serious injury that will keep him off the pitch until at least the end of this season.
This opens up a window of opportunity for the Portuguese Raphael Guerreiro, who has only been used by the coach of the German colossus, the Belgian Vincent Kompany, in one of the last six games in all competitions.
