The French international is the highest-paid player in Europe... but he could earn even more.
Kylian Mbappé reportedly gave up around 250 million euros in the summer transfer market when he decided to leave Paris Saint-Germain to move to Real Madrid at 'zero cost'.
According to Wednesday's edition of the French newspaper L'Équipe, the player's contract with the French club included a renewal clause for another season, which would cause his salary to 'skyrocket' by 20% to 70 million euros gross this season.
To this should be added a 'golden package' in the region of 180 million euros, in prizes, bonuses and sums related to the exploitation of image rights, which the player himself gave up to move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
The Gaulish international earns something like 32 million euros gross per season in the Spanish capital, making him the highest paid player in European soccer. However, his coffers could be much fuller.
To minimize the 'damage', the board led by Florentino Pérez has nevertheless committed to paying him a signing bonus of 100 million euros, which will be spread over the five years of his contract.
