A 14-year-old girl was killed today by a lion on the outskirts of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, the Kenya Wildlife Service reported.
The incident occurred on a ranch south of Nairobi National Park, with another teenager witnessing the attack and raising the alarm, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) said in a statement.
"KWS rangers and intervention teams acted quickly and found blood stains that led to the Mbagathi River, where the girl's body was found with injuries to her lower back," the service said.
The lion was not seen at the scene, with teams searching the area to try to capture the animal.
KWS also reported that a 54-year-old man was also killed on Friday by an elephant in Nyeri, in the center of the country.
“KWS extends its condolences to the bereaved families and continues to work closely with local law enforcement and communities to enhance the safety of those living near protected wildlife areas,” it said.
