Woman Dies After Fake Surgeon Tries to Remove Silicone From Her Buttocks

A 31-year-old woman died at the end of March after a man posing as a surgeon tried to remove the silicone implants she had in her buttocks in New York, United States.

María Peñaloza suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest and was declared brain dead, according to court documents cited by ABC News.

The incident occurred on March 28, with Felipe Hoyos-Foronda carrying out the operation "without a license to do so and while not in a health care facility," according to the complaint filed by the Queens District Attorney's Office.

The Public Prosecutor's Office pointed out that the 38-year-old man had administered lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to the woman, using a syringe, which caused "cardiac arrest".

The victim was transported to Astoria General Hospital, where he was intubated "without any brain activity."

The man, in turn, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and unauthorized practice of a profession.

Authorities continue to investigate.
