"Devastated". World's Tallest Dog Dies Days After Record Announcement

Kevin, whose award as the world's tallest dog was announced on June 13 by Guinness World Records, died this week at the age of three.

At 0.97 meters, the German dogue died following "unplanned surgery after falling ill," the organization said in a statement released on Monday.

"We are devastated. He was the best giant boy," confessed the dog's guardian, Tracy.

"We're very happy that he managed to break the record and had that spotlight on him. He loved the attention. I wish giant breeds, and all dogs, could live longer than they do. It's never long enough," he added.

Kevin, who was named after the protagonist of the film 'Home Alone', lived in West Des Moines, in the US state of Iowa, with his guardians Tracy and Roger Wolfe and their children Alexander, 12, and Ava, 10.

The big dog was described as a "gentle giant" who loved resting on the sofa and taking naps. In fact, he was afraid of most things, the worst of which was the vacuum cleaner.

"We were very sad to hear that Kevin died suddenly after unexpected health complications. Tracy and the team at the veterinary clinic where she works did everything they could to save Kevin after he fell ill. Our thoughts and support are with the Wolfe family as they face this difficult time," said a Guinness World Records spokesperson.
