After Beating Cancer, Elderly Woman in the USA Wins 5 Million in a Scratch Card

Donna Osborne, 75, saw her luck change in a matter of a few days.

The elderly woman from the state of Pennsylvania, in the United States, managed to overcome breast cancer and, shortly afterwards, won a prize of five million dollars (around 4.62 million euros) in a scratch card.

The story is told by the Pennsylvania state lottery organization itself, as well as by the Good News Network platform.

When Donna was preparing to travel with her daughter to Florida, to celebrate her 75th birthday, successive flight delays made the elderly woman abandon the trip and return home, leaving her daughter alone at the airport.

On the way, however, she decided to stop at a gas station and buy a scratch card, as she had done so many times throughout her life. This time, however, the bet paid dividends.

"I went back to the store and said, 'Can you check this? Is it right or wrong?'" Osborne said, adding: "The employee said, 'That's right!'"

Now, with another five million dollars in her account, Donna said she will "invest" part of the prize, and that she wants to "keep moving." "I'm going to Alaska," replied the woman, who had to undergo radiotherapy treatment.

"We wish Donna the best of birthdays as we celebrate winning this big prize," said Pennsylvania Revenue Secretary Pat Browne, adding: "Donna told us she has been playing the lottery for a long time and it's thanks to players like her that the PA Lottery is capable of not only creating millionaires, but also helping seniors live a good life."
