Harvey Weinstein Pleads Not Guilty After New Sex Crime Charges

New charges against American producer Harvey Weinstein were made last week, but no details were given.

American producer Harvey Weinstein pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to new charges of sexual crimes, during a hearing in New York, in the United States.

The new charges were announced last week, but not many details are yet known.

The new charges came days after the 72-year-old producer underwent emergency surgery following chest pains.

Not many details are known about the surgery either. According to his lawyers, Weinstein has suffered from medical problems throughout his time in prison.

Harvey Weinstein is serving a 23-year sentence in a New York prison after being convicted in 2020 of sexually assaulting a television and film production assistant in 2006 and third-degree rape of an aspiring actress in 2013.

In May, the New York Court of Appeals overturned Harvey Weinstein's conviction, finding that the judge in his trial had prejudiced the former movie mogul with "blatant" improper rulings. The same judge also justified the overturning of the conviction by the previous decision to allow women to testify about allegations that were not part of the case.

However, Harvey Weinstein will remain in prison, as his 2022 convictions for sex crimes in California remain intact.
