Mozambique and Indonesia are evaluating the possibility of co-operating in the production of batteries from minerals produced in that African country, said the Mozambican Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias.
‘In the area of mining, there is a lot of interest from Indonesia in working on battery production, so we're going to see and study this possibility,’ said Mr Zacarias.
The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy was speaking to journalists as part of his participation, on behalf of the Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi, in the Second Indonesia-Africa Forum, taking place in Bali, in that Asian country.
The partnership between the two countries in battery production will be the realisation of bilateral cooperation in the mining area, given the enormous potential for graphite that Mozambique has, an ore that is already exported for batteries used in electric vehicles, Carlos Zacarias continued.
Zacarias said that he had also discussed with the Indonesian authorities the possibility of a partnership in the production of medicines, within the framework of the efforts that the two countries have started to co-operate in the area of health.
The fields of fisheries, where ‘Indonesia has a very developed industry’, and transport are also of interest in bilateral relations, continued Carlos Zacarias.
Zacarias said that technical teams from the two countries will be meeting soon to define the terms of the agreements that will be signed to frame bilateral cooperation in the various sectors.
