Avoid Eating These Eight Foods On An Empty Stomach



When you wake up in the morning or after a long period of fasting, you should be careful about what you eat. Two gastroenterologists revealed to the Real Simple website what you should avoid eating on an empty stomach.


Robynne Chutkan and Michael Schopis also explained what can happen if you do. Here are the ingredients to avoid and the corresponding warnings.


1- Coffee

“It can be harmful on an empty stomach, as caffeine promotes the release of a hormone that activates stomach acid,” says Robynne Chutkan.


2- Spicy foods

“They can irritate the stomach lining.”


3- Sugary foods

“They can lead to a spike in insulin levels.”


4- Teas with a lot of caffeine

“Can cause digestive problems. Ideally, add a snack to go with it.”


5- Yogurt

“Some people are more sensitive to the acid in this type of food,” says Michael Schopis.


6- Carbonated drinks

“Gas can create a lot of pressure in the stomach, leading to pressure, bloating and discomfort.”


7- Fried foods

“They stay in the stomach for a long time, which can lead to acid production.”


8- Citrus fruits and juices

“They can end up irritating the stomach.”
