EU Congratulates Trump And Says It's Ready For “Constructive Cooperation”



The European Union (EU) today congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election, recalling the ties between the two blocs and saying it was prepared to work together with Washington.

On his account on the social network X, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, recalled the “lasting alliance and historic bond” between the EU and the United States of America (USA).


“As allies and friends,” he wrote, the Europeans look forward to ‘continued constructive cooperation’ with the US, stressing that the EU will remain a ‘strong, united and sovereign partner while defending the rules-based multilateral system’.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also stressed on the social network X that the EU and the US will “work together on a strong transatlantic agenda that continues to deliver results” for the 800 million citizens of both blocs.

The leader of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, also assured the X that the EU is ready to collaborate with Washington and to “maintain strong transatlantic ties, rooted in our shared values of freedom, human rights, democracy and open markets”.

Trump proclaimed his victory over Democrat Kamala Harris in the presidential election in a speech from Florida in the early hours of this morning, as he awaits confirmation and officialization, when US media projections put him just three electoral votes away from reaching the 270 needed to return to the White House.
