Junior Boucher, 36, was arrested for beating Brian Hiltebeitel, 65, to death with his own golf clubs at Sandhill Crane Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
According to the police report, to which People magazine had access, the crime took place on Monday and the family reported the elderly man's disappearance to the authorities an hour before the fatal outcome.
A witness, who was on the golf course, even heard Brian Hiltebeitel shout "he's trying to kill me" as he ran away from Boucher, who was waving a golf club.
Despite escaping, the man was chased to one of the lakes on the golf course, where he was allegedly struck in the head. "He jumped on top of Hiltebeitel and appeared to be choking him," the police report says.
When the victim lost consciousness and was no longer moving, the suspect struck him several times in the head with golf clubs. Then he got out of the water and "took off his clothes", according to the witness' testimony.
Called to the scene, the police found the killer, who was naked, running away. He ended up being detained "after a short chase on foot" and only with "the use of an electronically controlled weapon".
Authorities then went to the lagoon, where they pulled the victim from the water with "multiple deep lacerations to the back of his head." Death was declared at the scene.
"At this time we do not think Boucher had any legitimate purpose for being on the golf course. It appears to be a random act of violence in which Boucher used the victim's golf clubs as a weapon and violently attacked her, ultimately killing her," he explained. Palm Beach Police Chief Dominick Pape at a news conference.
Authorities are still investigating the murder and, for now, they see no connection between the criminal and the victim.
