Lawyer for British tycoon Mike Lynch, Chris Morvillo, and his wife, Neda Morvillo, were the first bodies to be analyzed more than two weeks after the tragic event. The results confirm death by drowning.
The first autopsies on the victims of the sinking of the superyacht ‘Bayesian’ have begun. The first were Lynch's lawyer, Chris Morvillo, and his wife, Neda Morvillo.
The autopsies were carried out by coroners appointed by the Palermo Public Prosecutor's Office and confirm the cause of death as drowning, reports Sky News.
On Wednesday 4 September, autopsies are scheduled for Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of the London branch of investment bank Morgan Stanley, and his wife Judy.
Autopsies are still pending on Mike Lynch, his daughter Hannah and Ricardo Thomas.
Seven people died when the luxury vessel, owned by British tycoon Mike Lynch, sank off the coast of Sicily, Italy, after being hit by a sudden and violent storm in the early hours of 19 August.
At the time, Mike Lynch, nicknamed the ‘British Bill Gates’, was celebrating on this cruise ship with friends, associates and lawyers his acquittal last June in a fraud case in the United States.
The bodies of six of the victims, including Lynch, his 18-year-old daughter Hannah and passengers Jonathan and Judy Bloomer, were discovered after the sinking during a five-day search operation by divers. The yacht's chef, Ricardo Thomas, was the last to be found. There were, however, 15 people who survived the tragedy.
The Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case to determine who is responsible for what happened. While investigators are considering the possibility of manslaughter, Captain James Cutfield is suspected of the alleged offences of shipwreck and multiple homicide by negligence.
Meanwhile, prosecutors in the Sicilian town of Termini Immerse have also decided to investigate two members of the crew, naval engineer Tim Parker Eaton and seaman Matthew Griffiths.
